Introduction

There are two current technologies to send data over cellular:

Cellular Circuit-Switched Data (CCSD): available today in all cellular markets, and
Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD): a new advanced technology with early availability in select markets.

Both technologies provide solutions for data over cellular. Deciding which technology is appropriate for a corporation or individual depends on a number of factors including:

Type of application (faxing, file transfer, remote terminal access, etc.)
Amount of data to send or receive
Available service in the geographic area

Many industries are taking advantage of data over cellular technologies and are achieving real benefits. The following table presents some of the industries that are using data over cellular to re-engineer their work flow to solve complex business problems.
